Chapters 10 and 11 also talk about more minority groups. In chapter 10, I learned about Mexican Americans and Puerto Ricans and in Chapter 11 I learned about Muslims and Arab Americans. In both chapters I learned about these specific groups and their immigrating to America.…

Imagine waking into a store and feeling like your being watched by the workers around every corner. Knowing you have that target, that label, on you just because there are other people who “look like you”, makes it hard to be your own person without people having preconceived ideas about you. I feel that people judge because it gives them the feeling that they have an understanding of a situation and that they feel in control. In Akiba Solomon’s “Thugs.…

This to me is a negative ethnocentrism, because what this means is that Trump supporters refuse to accept that all people are equal regardless of who they are. One example of ethnocentrism from the movie is; there were people who thought that the Peruvian man was Arabic. Therefore, they robbed and damaged his store and left anti-Arabic graffiti on the walls. I consider this an ethnocentric behavior because the robbers were not accepting of the Arabic culture. Hence the anti-Arabic…

Why should someone be put in danger because the colour of their skin is different? The issue I am talking about today is one of the most long-lasting concerns of humanity. We thought racism ended about 60 years ago, but what people don’t realize is that every day and every night there are unspeakable acts of racism taking place around the world. For example, months ago in Baltimore, a police officer murdered a young black boy. It seems that the people that are meant to protect us are the one destroying us.…
