Africa had been invaded by many European nations and it played an important part in World War 2. Ethiopia was one of the only nations to not be invaded yet and Italy wanted it. So when Ethiopia and Italian troops clashed, Italy asked for $100,000 or war. Ethiopia didn’t pay up and both forces started to mobilize, though war wasn’t actually declared.
Ethiopia had a massive army of 800,000 Ethiopians with outdated rifles and artillery and spears.They also had 15,000 Emperor's Imperial Guards who were the best trained and armed. The italians did not have as many men but had superior technology with 100,000 fully equipped soldier, tanks and airplanes and they quickly destroyed Ethiopia's army.
On the 6th of October, Adowa falls, 9 days later, Axum
