I was born in somalia, where I grew up for seven years before moving to Ethiopia. I lived in Ethiopia for another seven years then moved to the United States five years ago. During my time in those different countries, I have really learned the true meaning of diversity. Not only have I met people from various racial backgrounds, but I have also met with people with different cultures, religions, languages, and traditions. I have always been open to everyone, despite the fact that I was born in a country divided up by the ongoing civil war and tribalism. I grew up in an environment where everyone considers their tribe to be the superior tribe, but that did not affect me in any way, as I grew up to be one of the most prominent anti-tribalism activists. That is when I have decided to bring my Ethiopian and Somali friends together in the soccer stadium to try and solve the problem on the spot. I started by addressing both sides and telling them what the other side think of them, in which each group has responded that their assumptions are wrong and that they are not as bad as they are thought to be. I slowly stepped out of the conversation and let the two groups talk it out. After an hour of talking, both groups have came up to the same conclusion and decided to put the past behind them. Then to my surprise, each member of each group started hugging a member from the other group. This for me was a dream come true, as I was able to say that I have made the world a better place by fixing this problem. Culture of Ghana and west African Countries through Changes The culture of Ghana and other West African countries are very much similar and diverse. People around the world are very closed minded in such a way that they think that the entire African culture is only based on movies and in such a way they think all African countries are based on jungles and wild life. The African culture in general is based on religious beliefs, family, ethics, and different cultural groups. Some interesting factors that are quit catchy are close family, food, the way people dress, and the way people treat each other (the way women are treated in the society).…

The Anasazi as they are now known were an advanced Native American culture found in the Southwestern United States. The word Anasazi Is derived from a Navajo Indian term which roughly translates into two separate terms the first of which speaks to a very likely adversarial relationship with neighboring tribes “The ancient Enemy” the second of which is a great deal less ominous and is merely “The ancient Ones”. Both are fitting names as Anasazi culture is thought to date as far back as far as 1200 B.C (1), with groups of precedent day Native Americans claiming descendants from them. At the height of their civilization Anasazi Villages or Pueblos as they are now called from the Spanish word for village could be found all across the…

For those who do not know, when you first start ECA you take High School level classes, with other High Schoolers during your first semester. After teachers review your progress you’ll either be placed in College classes, because you’re what they call, “College Ready,” or you’ll take another semester of High School classes. During my second year of ECA, I was placed in EMU College classes. During this time I was exposed to an environment in which I was interacting with adults in a classroom setting, versus being in school with students in my age group.…

I believe that the University of Georgia Honors Program would open up countless doors for me throughout my UGA career, and it would allow me to thrive and contribute to a smaller environment of more dedicated and passionate students. Coming from a small, very academically advanced private school, I am very familiar with and fond of this type of environment. I also believe that my high school experience, in such a unique and diverse school, would allow me to contribute greatly to the honors community. The Honors Program’s access to smaller class sizes would allow me to be in closer contact with my teachers, something that I benefited from greatly in high school.…
