Taste of Ethiopia is a cultural event in Denver, Colorado, which is practicing once in a year by Ethio-Americans. This is the third one since it was started, in 2013. Eventually it was taking place the year I Came to America however, unfortunately I didn’t attend the first and the second events, which would be fine for me, to understand the progress they have made by comparing the present with the former occasions. Any ways hear I am to celebrate the day with my people. I am expecting to have a good time, enjoy the traditional music, dance with my friends, eat my beloved traditional foods and also want to drink my favorite homemade slightly Alcoholic beverage called “Tej”. The festival is

The Chicano Park day was eventful because of the community getting together to celebrate the culture and park. It was impressive to see the amount of people that attended the event and how diverse, especially because of the community it is located in I expected it to be particularly the neighbors. In association to the news and the elections, it is important to see the amount of support that the Mexican culture is receiving and together they can withstand anything. On my walk to the park I noticed that it was going to be crowded because of there not being any parking so we had to park down at the trolley station. This is my first time down there for this event, it was impressive because I would have never thought that due to the amount of people…

I found this Yakudoshi party fun and very informative celebration (not to mention the great meal my wife and I had). I had an idea of the different types or the variety of food the Japanese culture has to offer, however, I think the most valuable lessons here were learning about the culture. I was fortunate enough to hear how the older generation and the younger generation view the practice of Yakudoshi, compare their views on food, hear and learn about some Japanese etiquettes (especially in the use of chopsticks as I described it in the discussion experience below), and hear their views on interracial marriage. Although the young Japanese couple had a hard time convincing their children to consume some of their meal, watching the young…

The event I attended was the Cuentos y Culturas Latinx Heritage Month Showcase hosted by Say Sí. The event ran from September 23rd to the 24th. The performance was only available on the opening days, however the exhibit portion was open to the public for a few weeks after. The performance was an original stage production that portrays one of the creation stories from the Coahuiltecans, who were Native Americans that lived in the southern regions of texas. The name of the production is Napako, meaning “our journey”.…

It felt weird to have everyone’s eyes on you for a feature that was not connected to you. I believe that clothes are not technically a part of you and therefore you should never be judged in any way on what you are wearing. It took some time for me to warm up to the reaction that we were getting, but eventually I was able to have fun with it. My friends and I soaked up the attention. We talked to as many people as we could and we danced through the street, making the experience…

The Harvest Moon Festival is an Asian holiday that celebrates the union of families and friends while observing the full moon and giving thanks for the harvest. The Asian American Student Association and the Vietnamese American Student Association observe this day and created a festival here, at Oklahoma State University. I enjoyed the festival, even though the festival did get a bit disorganized, you could still tell that the organizations and the audience all had a fun time regardless of the somewhat mediocre talent. It was a kind of a chilly day. The clouds dressed the sky in a dull white color and the wind made you well aware of its existence.…

Outside of the gazebo, lined huge red drapes drizzled in gold, which gave it a Moroccan feel. There sat a food buffet that rested against the back wall. The food smelled as if Africa and India only stood a few steps away and not hundreds and thousands of miles away. I decided to join a group of friends at the beginning of the feast. We first ate dates, a fruit favored highly by the prophet Muhammad, after that we proceeded to eat the rest of the course.…

With a significant number of individuals in Ethiopia and other developing countries being largely dependent on agricultural produce as a main source of income, uninsured weather shocks and changes in commodity prices can have significant and adverse impacts on consumption levels. This volatility creates significant uncertainty and consequentially reduces overall welfare. Furthermore, these individuals are typically unable to effectively smooth their income when shocks do occur, due to the lack of available credit which is often required to compensate for low savings. When these negative shocks are experienced, reduction in consumption can often lead to severe negative effects on general health and increases trends in children being removed…
