Jim Matthew was also once a college student and he witnessed and played a role in being a victim to alcohol at a point in life, but he chose to teach others after his experiences that it's okay to have fun in college but it is more to drinking than just fun and there are safer ways. His main goal of the presentation wasn't to scare us away from drinking or encourage it, but instead to help students understand the risk associated with consuming alcohol. One strategy he taught us was to know the percentage of alcohol in the product that you are drinking and the second strategy is to know your limits. Once you feel that buzz that is the perfect place to be anything after that is too much. I also noticed in the presentation that alcohol advertisements influence people to believe that drinking is great. The commercials for beer usually have a sexy female model drinking to draw attention from the male population to try the product. The thought of alcohol and women in a man's mind leads to sex. He gave us information about safely drinking on campus to high-risk impact. He said, “Just having the information won't make a difference, but applying it is what matters.” I look at using alcohol different now because it is more to just having fun when you are under the influence of being intoxicated and unaware.
