Ethics is the study of what is right or what ought to be, as this depends upon the action of the individual. The individual is moved to action not by moral judgments, but also by desires and tendency to operate based on moral judgement. Individuals today use a set of principles that have been written, modified, abused and constantly changed. In order for a species to survive, they must overcome their greed, fears, and sometimes their needs/wants in order to achieve self actualization through moral standards, which will eventually lead to people making good moral judgement in many different cases and scenarios.

To share something that will help someone else survive and adapt to social norms is considered to be the right thing to do. The bigger the group, the more resources are available to adapt to the environment and survive. According to Carnegie, there are 3 modes in which wealth can be disposed of and one being “for public purposes” (489). The wealthy citizens should leave their money to good use and benefit society so that it will have more public services that enables them to survive longer.
