Hiring good people to assist in the management of the district is also essential. In talking with Mr. Higgins, I learned that when a district has good assistant superintendents, directors, and principals, it frees the superintendent to concentrate on the non-managerial aspects such as visioneering, community building and strengthening trust for a healthy culture.
III. Planning for where to go next Bringing it all together is the big goal I have set for myself. I think having these experiences has been very helpful, but they seem a bit disjointed. I believe having more conversations with key staff and requesting more opportunities to have leadership experiences will aid the process. The practicum experiences have helped shape my future plans. Because of the multitude of experiences I have had related to professional development that have been so enjoyable and rewarding, I believe I would like to pursue that avenue further. I have been grateful for the exposure to the many components of the job of superintendent. Every experience helps us learn and shapes our future.
