Ethical Challenges Related to Practice

Apprehensions of the complexities involving the various scenarios that I will face when working with clients have been one of the biggest concerns that remain on my mind as I continue to be groomed into becoming an effective, professional counselor. With the substantiated knowledge throughout our studies that counselors are to protect the welfare of the clients we serve, with his or her best interest on the forefront, I can safely say that I do not believe that remaining respectful of clients and faithful to the established ACA Code of Ethics (Remley & Herlihy, 2016, pp. 399-431) for professional counselors, will be a challenge that I cannot meet, especially as it pertains to my morals, ethics and values. However, I do know that trials will surface upon my career path in the future, which will test my loyalty to the profession, such as the Catch-22 predicament that Edward faced with Ms. Wilcox, as described in the example, 1-2 - The Case of Edward (Remley & Herlihy, 2016, p. 9).

Edward was charged with deciding if he should relinquish information about his client to his supervisor (the principal) or to stick to the rules of counseling, according to the ACA Code of Ethics (Remley & Herlihy, 2016, pp. 399-431). Like Edward’s dilemma, I expect to deal with a plethora of tests against my morals, ethics and values, all of which I am certain will position myself to be forced to make the decision to either tip or not to tip the…
