Although the female officer wasn’t talked about as much as the male officer, she initially was just having her partners back, but even then, she didn’t conduct herself in the matter in which the male officer did. The rotten apple theory is the theory that deviant police officers bring their undesirable attributes or traits into the policing profession in which they were enlisted or hired and because of this entire departments and units maybe branded as corrupt, because of what a handful of officers do. (Griffin & Ruiz, 1999) Under this theory, the solution for police misconduct is to enhance the psychological screening of officers so that the rotten apples are excluded from the barrel. (Griffin & Ruiz, 1999) The police department and agencies can control or prevent this type of unethical behavior by requiring officers to attend a monthly training session, in which they receive a reminder of the dangers of corruption, how to properly talk and deal with the public, as well as examples of what an ethical officer would do in a scenario versus what an unethical or corrupt officer would do. This theory is known as the Noble theory which consist of law enforcement officers utilizing illegal or unlawful means to obtain their desired results. This type of corruption or misconduct involves good officers trying to do the right thing but go about it the wrong way. This does not excuse his actions and they do need to be properly addressed through punishment and various trainings that include cultural diversity training, use of force training, and de-escalation technique training. As well as counseling to help him deal with the everyday stress and trauma that police officers encounter. Unfortunately, Corporal Officer Casebolt was resigned during the active investigation and therefore does not fall under the jurisdiction of the conduct review committee. Police Chief Conley states that “The actions of Casebolt, as seen on the video of the disturbance at the community pool, are indefensible. Our training and our practices do not support his actions.
