What It Means to Be an Ethical Genetic Engineer
Introduction
Genetic engineering, also called genetic modification, is the direct manipulation of an organism 's genome using biotechnology [1]. Genetic modification is a set of multipliable technologies including the transfer of original and customized genes from host to different cells. Cloning is the most interesting technology in genetic engineering field because it potentially hides huge profit and a great chance to transplant your organs without the risky side effects. The first benefit of cloning is that those who cannot get a child and very painful infertility patients have their own children. Second, such cloning is done only with …show more content…
Kim, successfully cloned the northern leopard frog in 1952. However, the successful ratio of animal cloning is only about 0.36%. Human cloning has not been successfully experiment but it would have a lower percentage of successful ratio than animal cloning cases according to the ratio is proportional with how many amount of DNA which needs to transit to target womb. For example, from animal cloning experiments, the survival rate of cloned species is very low. In the Dolly sheep cloning experiment, there was only one survival in 277 embryos fusion. Many cloned lambs, which are fortunate enough to be born, die from heart abnormalities, uremia, or dyspnea very soon. Some individuals of the cloned animal exhibit physiological or immunological deficiencies after birth. Blood oxygen and growth factor concentrations below normal; thymus, spleen, lymph node development is not normal and so on. If these potential factors were also applied for the case of human cloning, the cloned individual could not live as functional as normal human, which the consequence of human cloning includes greater disadvantages than …show more content…
Today we use this idea to say that ethical actions treat all human beings equally-or if unequally, then fairly based on some standard that is defensible [5]. Even though some people agree with that human cloning would be a way to fairly satisfies the need of infertile family, most biological scientists and genetic engineers argue against reproductive human cloning on the grounds that it is not fair for lives. Because Human cloning violates the dignity and respect due to every human individual as it undermines the rights, identity and welfare of any child created in this way [6]. Once a new life born by human cloning comes to the world, he or she is treated unfairly since the way that their lives are created is different than lives from the normal human reproduction. Even cloned lives are legalized by government, more and more scientist and social media will strongly focus on their daily behavior, which contributes unfair childhood to those cloned
