Ethical Profession Of Prostitution

Decent Essays
I firmly believe that prostitution is a very vulgar and unethical profession. It is unsafe and very immoral. There are many reasons why this should not be allowed to come to pass in our nation. This profession shows just how greedy people are, they are willing to sell themselves into a lifestyle of this sort just for a pay. And some not even for that! I have no doubt that if this was passed; there would be a great increase in STD’s, in the human trafficking, and in the delinquent teen state, and illegal drug and substance pushing. There are many factors that would lead young people to try to be involved in this trade, such as: being neglected or abused as a child, being led into a life of immorality, or the influence found on the internet.

The Progressives were led by religious leaders such as Charles Parkhurst, a Protestant Reverend who urged for more “protest” from the Protestants. The Progressive Era united various anti-vice crusaders such as the Anti-Cigarette League, the American Purity Alliance, and the Anti-Saloon League. These groups were already united on many issues such as labor rights, women’s rights, minimum wage laws, etc. Thus, in 1900, a reform group known as the “New York Committee of Fifteen” conducted undercover vice investigations and released their first report with the title “The Social Evil.” A similar group with ties to the New York Anti-Saloon League, known as the “Committee of Fourteen,” did a comparable investigation of prostitution three years later.…

In the article “What is Wrong with Prostitution, Pateman argues that prostitution is a form of patriarchy and she attempts to support her argument by referring to the history of how women were treated as housewives. Essentially, she claims that prostitution is merely a way for men to temporarily claim ownership against women. In my opinion, I would disagree with this claim since prostitutes have the autonomy to choose who their clients will be and have the right to refuse any form of sexual activity that may not fall under their likings. Pateman also claims that prostitution is not similar to other forms of jobs. To elaborate, in a typical job, the employer is paid on the basis of what they produce through labor, whereas prostitutes are paid…

Radical feminists argue that prostitution is not a conscious and calculated choice most of the time. They believe that most individuals who become prostitutes are forced or persuaded by a pimp or by human trafficking. If it is an independent decision, then it is due to personal issues, like poverty, lack of opportunity, or underlying problems, like drug addiction, child sexual abuse and other factors.…

Even though my opinion that it should stay illegal stayed the same afterwards I still think that. Starting with Shane, even though she states that she likes her profession throughout most of her article she goes over all bad things. Like how she doesn’t actually want to have sex with her client and is not given enthusiastic consent. She also mentions how emotional connection is asking to much because she is still a human being. While I completely agree that prostitutes are still human beings, I can’t help but feel that because they are being paid does make it ok for the client to ask of this.…

What I have learned so far on my readings throughout the semester I believe that prostitution should be legalized in the United States. I can say based on the facts that prostitution had a violent impact on the women and young teenagers that works in these industries. Also those organization abuses physical and mentally that the consequence can be traumatic in their victim lives. The government doesn’t have control on these situations, I believe based on these reasons prostitution needs to be legalized because the government can stop and be involved by adding protection in different ways and can be a better way to control the illegal prostitution. Also with the supervision of legal institutions, they can stop human trafficking, any type of…

Prostitution is known as the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment. It's one of the most well known, untraditional jobs in the world and it has been sound for centuries. Many people view it as morally wrong and demanding to women, but for these women, it's just like any other job. For years now, sex works have been looked down on by society and told that they're not respecting themselves enough. They've been subject to physical and sexual assault and there's been plenty of unsolved cases and cases that were never opened simply because law enforcement didn't want to waste their time on it.…

My opinion is that if there were certain restrictions I would say to legalize it. My younger sister worked for Dennis Hof about 15 years ago, and there is a whole lot of dirty business in those places. I think if it were to be legalized that it should be ran under a county agency. There were times my sister told me that Denis knew of girls not being safe. Meaning that there were men that would come along and pay a girl more to not use a condom, and they also were using drugs.…
