This statement is backed up by the official statistics of the FBI (2015), where there was a 62% decline in sexual abuse from 1992 to 2010 in the US. In Orange County, there are not many full-fledged newsstands unlike the ones in other states such as New York, but the ones that are present are usually very small coin operated dispensers with no pornography in sight. I do remember one particular instance about ten years ago, when I went to a minimart and was looking at the magazines, and remember seeing some racy covers, which led to the salesperson pointing out a sign to my eight-year-old self that read something along the lines of “must be 18 years and older to look in this area.” Thinking back to that moment, I remember the sign not being in the most visible spot, and the magazines intended for older audiences were right next to all the other normal magazines. 2.…

According to Dr. Lynch, Porn Chic is the hyper-sexual culture that is present in modern day society. She began her presentation by discussing Hugh Hefner, the creator or Playboy, and how he was one of the main figures that began hyper-sexualizing women in society. Four points were brought up relating to Porn Chic: popular culture normalization of sexual objectification and women’s bodies, pop culture normalization of priority/dominance of white mail gaze, oscillation of girls toward self-objectification, and rigid adherence to gender role dichotomy. For example, Hooters is a huge part of Porn Chic because waitresses barely wear anything while on the job, and many customers just go to restaurants to see the women’s bodies.
