As a professional engineer, I have the ethical duty to consider my responsibility to public welfare above that of employer or client and to report any case of professional misconduct to the PEO. Subsequent to discovering that Hammer City Construction used the I-beams in a different construction project, I have the ethical duty to notify involved parties, Quality Steel Inc. and stress the impending danger to public welfare resulting from using these beams, Hammer City Construction and the PEO if Quality Steel Inc. further refuses to react appropriately. Failing to report that the I-beam is unsafe and did not meet standard is considered professional misconduct which is in direct violation of the code of ethics.
