Relationship lens: this lens benefits the entire community or group by making sure all are treated with respect, fairness, and dignity.
Results lens: this lens focuses on results and goals where the benefit of the individual action outweighs the cost. The main goal is the greatest happiness for the majority of the people.
Reputation lens: a person with a good character is concerned about the well-being of the entire community.

After taking the Ethical Lens Inventory I discovered that the sensibility and autonomy lenses best suited me. I value autonomy over equality and I prioritize sensibility over rationality. According to the inventory, I am concerned with protecting individual right and I believe the best results are achieved by examining each situation in its own context rather than applying one-size-fits-all solutions.…

I had a really hard time with the ethical lens exercise; it seemed that the harder I tried to figure out what the exercise was trying to develop. The answers seemed to be mostly perspective, with no logic behind the reason to pick one answer over the other but once I came to the realization that the answers were supposed to be based on different people from the different lens categories it became easier but I still couldn’t get the right answers. In the end the best way for me to answer the questions was to stop over analyzing the questions and just look at the answers biased what was result orientated, relationship orientated, etc.…

Another course which I think made a significant contribution to my professional and ethical standards in healthcare was HCA 6280: Legal and Ethical Issues in Health Care. In this class I learned a great deal about the modern day legal issues and regulations affecting healthcare organizations. But I also learned about some of the predominant ethical consideration in the field of healthcare law, and about the long history of (ethical) divergence between healthcare policy makers on the matter of a more equiable healthcare system. Consider the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for instance.…

In my opinion, ethics classes are doing what they can to enhance the moral values of the students but unfortunately, there is nothing much to improve because good values were not built on a strong foundation. People with very little moral are usually easily-influenced by outside forces. This type of people normally believes what they are being told to or does whatever they’re asked to do. They can’t decide for themselves in any given situation. Mostly, they rely on somebody else to make a choice for them.…

Many of my colleagues would agree with me that the presentations and the content following gives us a good insight on issues and situations that are present in companies. Also what and what not to do if faced with a pressing ethical situation. So far our biggest discussions have been over the VW controversy with their faulty emission standards and others like the BP oil spill.
