As a practicing Muslim one of the laws that I follow is not shaking hands with the opposite gender unless that person is your wife, mom, aunt, grandma, etc. This is to respect the other gender. In a diverse society we live in today we are going to cross many different people who follow different faiths, have different cultures, or unique in their own way. As a teacher this is easy for me to understand because I have students who come from different backgrounds and cultures and I have been taught to accept all and make all students are comfortable in your classroom. A leader needs to be able to accept different cultures and be aware of the many different people they might come across (Bolman, Deal 2013). Leaders need to be able to manage diversity and there a few ways to da that. Respect someone’s differences; promote understanding of different values, and by modeling tolerance and appreciation to others (Yulk, 2013). With the increasing number of people moving to different parts of the world, there will be an increase in the applicants a manager will probably receive for a job. It is his or her duty to be fair and just in all the decisions made.
To conclude ethical leadership, issues of gender, and diversity in organizations is a topic that will come up in many leadership discussions. One life lesson I have always followed to never expect something of someone if you will not do it yourself. For us to be a leader who wants to influence others and have a prosperous environment, then we need to model the positive traits and make sure to be just and fair with all
