The concepts that I value to be an effective leader and follower are ethical leadership and leader influence. The leader-follower relationship is complemented by modeling ethical behavior and followership. Implementing these behaviors into my daily routine will allow me to enhance my character and credibility to gain trust within my organization. Ethical leadership is critical to set the tone for my organization. I strive to model ethical behaviors that are consistent with the ethics of my organization and my personal ethics. I actively live by military rules, regulations and the codes of conduct. Despite being deliberate about being ethical, as a leader you make ethical decisions often. My personal motto is “leading yourself, makes you a great follower and positions you to lead”. I have incorporated this into my daily life which helps align me to the five essential qualities of an effective follower. The five qualities consist of self-management, commitment, competence, integrity, and initiative. To understand how I am doing in the five qualities I actively seek feedback from peers and senior leaders. I consistently inform my mentors of my goals, which allows for assistance in setting realistic and achievable goals. I seek feedback from my mentors to gauge my commitment level. Feedback assists in refocusing on my goals that may have higher priority for the given time. This feedback also helps me strive to reach a higher level of performance. When I am not accountable it is easy to stray from my goals. When I am honest about my performance to a mentor, it allows me to self-reflect honestly. My mentors also give me feedback on my motivation level, when it is low they encourage me to meet my goals. By utilizing the five qualities and feedback I am able to maximize my ability to lead myself. I plan to use these experiences to better provide feedback to my
