The story is narrated by Scout Finch, who lives with her older brother Jem, their widowed father Atticus and their cook Calpurnia in Maycomb, Alabama. Atticus is a lawyer, leading to the family live well off compared to the rest of the society. Every summer, a boy named Dill comes to live in his aunt’s house in the neighborhood and is soon befriended by Scout and Jem. The trio spends summer together and is curious about the mystery of Boo Radley, who is their neighbor and also Nathan Radley’s brother who never leaves the house.
