That’s why I think it should be clear to everyone that there’s been a long line of brutal attacks made by police against blacks. One incident that should have resonated with all of us is the rodney king incident where after a high speed chase the taxi driver was beaten tremendously by numerous LAPD cops who showed no remorse but simply just enjoyment in punishing the man. A wrongful act of violence against black women shouldn't come as big of a surprise as (Andrea J. Ritchie) a police-misconduct attorney, explains in her new book (Invisible No More: Police Violence Against Black Women and Women of Color) why that very issue expands upon other women in this issue. She issued that what happened in Columbia, her hometown, was "representative amongst a decade-long trend in policing black women and girls of color across the country, also expanding through in and out of school.” If this kind of aggression comes as a bit of a surprise it's because it wasn't until recently that the issue of police misconduct against women of color found greater prominence in national discussions of a regime run by police as she points out is the direct point in which her story goes.
