The National Football League (NFL) handled the ray rice domestic dispute poorly. The league messed up with telling the truth about the video, putting image and public relations first as well as, making their own image seem more important than women’s rights. This situation could have been handled much better if they admitted it at first and and were honest.
The NFL put their own public relations(PR) first in handling the Ray Rice affair. For example, soon after NFL supposedly received the security camera footage, “Monday night’s(Night the alleged video was received by the NFL) security staffers didn’t know how to do their jobs”(Hartmann 1). For example, after the video was released,”So the only punishment he likely faces is what the NFL gave him — a suspension and a fine of around $500,000. For most people, that would be a lot of money. But for a professional football player, it's not so much”(NFL urged to crack down on players who hurt women 2). The punishment Ray Rice received is too light for such a heinous crime.They should be punished like an everyday person, and take jail time. Just because they are a celebrity doesn't mean they should get special treatment. They have money, those type of punishments mean nothing to them.. In addition, most recently the NFL wanted help reforming their policy,”Any action by the league after the Ray Rice scandal will be closely watched by the other sports. But the NFL's new group of advisers believes the process also could have a more far-reaching impact.”(Cohen 1). The NFL reached out to find others to help handle this dispute. Also, after starting domestic policy reform Goodell responded with,”’I got it wrong in the handling of the Ray Rice matter and I'm sorry for that,’ he said. ‘I'm not satisfied with the way we handled it from the get-go.
