I feel that if the proper steps are taken by educated and certified doctors, abortions are safe. According to the Center for Disease Control, abortions and miscarriage are the safest pregnancy outcomes for the carrying female. Since the legalization of abortion, abortion related deaths for women decreased to today’s estimate of 1 out of every 100,000 procedures. The death rate for penicillin shots is higher at 2 out of every 100,000. In 2009, 19 out every 100,000 women giving live birth died due to complications. Like a majority of other states (25), Illinois has a term ban on abortions after 24 to 26 weeks. Also in Illinois, parents of minors must be notified prior to the procedure. State employees are only covered for the procedure
