Ethical Issues In Gattaca

In the movie Gattaca, a scientific fiction, directed by Andrew Niccol, the aspect of genetics has been portrayed to be either ethical or unethical. Vincent Anton Freeman genetically modified himself to be similar to Jerome Eugene Morrow. Vincent always had a passion in working in the aerospace corporation, however, with his health issues he had from birth; he was unable to be part of the company. For a while, he worked as a janitor in the aerospace company called Gattaca. After a few weeks of working and getting exposed to his future desires, he impersonates himself as Jerome in order to work there.
Once he got selected (pretending to be Jerome) he had to prepare himself in a particular way every day to pass as Jerome Morrow in Gattaca. He must take good care of himself and be very cautious not to leave any trace of Vincent behind. For example, he took dry baths and exfoliates every day in order to remove skin cells on the surface of his skin. Also, he would brush his hair vigorously to prevent loose hairs from falling. There are less diseases spread since everyone has to be very hygienic and properly groomed while working at Gattaca. Everyone in the work station seems very intelligent and productive. They do not waste any time socializing and they are always working on the assigned task from the authorities. On the other hand, Gattaca discriminates whoever applies for the aerospace job. They want specific genes that will be well suited for the aerospace job. For instance, Vincent was not allowed to work there because of his health issues he had, however, after impersonating Jerome he was able to get in Gattaca.
