“We must buy from companies that treat animals, workers and the environment with respect. When you go to the supermarket, buy products that are in season. Buy foods that are organic. We must know what is in our food. We must read the labels. Everyone has the right to healthy food. Ask for food that will keep us and the planet healthy. We can change the world with every bite” (POV). Companies, especially larger corporations control the whole food system, from seed to the supermarket. The industrial food system is always looking for greater efficiency, but in each step it is taking a greater efficiency which leads to problems. These companies want these farmers to tell the world about everything they are doing, but some turn down. Most of these farmers that are working for bigger corporations are refusing to be interviewed or to give any specific information about their farming. These corporations control the farmers in such a way that they cannot change anything that is occurring in their systems. So therefore, if these corporations are not having a great production when their products are being sent throughout the world, then it will just pass the FDA and health-safety regulations even if it isn’t safe to eat. According to the film, fast food industries outnumbered supermarkets that sell fresh and healthy foods. With this, there is a greater probability that consumers will choose to buy or consume food in fast food restaurants because they have no other choice. Because of this, rates of obesity and diabetes will be higher since we all know that food sold in fast food restaurants contain bad calories and are unhealthy. But food in fast foods are cheaper than the healthier foods like fruits and vegetables. It is because these foods are made up of commodity crops, like wheat and corn, which is in the case of US, being subsidized by the government. This government subsidy makes these food price less.
