Abstract
Numerous factors are influencing both the supply of registered nurses as well as the demand for nursing services. The issue in today’s society is within the nursing workforce planning with the present health system environment that addresses the ethical issues related to shortage. In this issue analysis essay, the causes that are compounding the nursing shortage are examined as well as the actions taken to prevent the shortage from becoming worse. The shortage of qualified health sciences professionals is most often associated with the demand for nursing staff. A nurse’s role is more than just lending a helping hand to a patient who is ill. Nurses are the first initial contact primary care providers that positively contribute to society. Nurses work is meaningful, however, the country is facing a nursing shortage that grows each and every year. As the baby-boomer generation grows older, and nurses from that generation reach retirement age, the demand for nurses is higher than ever. Nurses go through an overbearing of extra hours on scheduled days off and work over schedule on regular workdays that put nurses in a high stress level career that leaves them dissatisfied and unappreciated, making their workplace environment challengeable and questionable. Nonetheless, the best source to prevent this issue is with new graduate nurses. New graduate nurses are young, energetic, eager to learn and have a desire to help others.
