They see he is being taken in and accepted by this rich white family and white community and they feel he is taking advantage of them or is being spoon fed. They are envious of him and let him know by degrading him and basically disowning him. Cultural ethical relativism comes into play here, according to Storey (2009), cultural relativism is “the acceptance and appreciation of cultures or ways of living different from your own; not judging a culture but trying to understand ti on its own terms.” African American men tend to think that in order to be accepted that they must become a part of a gang to fit into their “perspective” culture. The reality in it all is that African American men who grow up in lower income housing feel very trapped and they feel as if it is their responsibility to take the money situation into their own hands and provide for themselves and their families. This however, leads to crimes and fast money in attempt to get out of the lower income housing and make a better life for themselves. It is ironic, because sometimes they believe that they are doing good by providing and making money, but they are breaking the law. They believed in what they were doing and they stuck by it, they did not let the opinions of others changed what they set out to do and that was to help give Michael Oher a better life. This story can instill life lessons into readers, just like it did into their family. We often overlook somebody, or look down upon somebody because they do not look like us, or they have less money than us. Stories like this, prove you should not judge a book by its cover and allow yourself to get to know somebody before making your judgement on them. The Tuohy’s family character and morals speaks volumes, they believed in something when others did not and it payed off in the end. As for Michael, he found somebody to believe in him and now can provide for his family. I recommend this book to anybody struggling with hardships in their lives, or anybody who feels they are falling into society’s cycle. This book can open your eyes to a whole new ideology and help individuals start to find the good in people in
