Because people tend to take advantage of technology to fulfill their desires at large, one way to reduce overwhelming outcomes is to establish rules. In Belkin’s essay, she raised a question of how to maintain a balance between what’s rights and what’s ethical, “Ethicists think in terms of a slippery slope. But is the potential for abuse in some circumstances reason not to pursue research that can be lifesaving under the right circumstances” (Belkin 7). Ethic is a hard line to draw especially when people view from different aspects. It might seem reasonable for Henry and Molly’s parents to manipulate their reproduction to save their kids life. On the contrary, it might seem irresponsible in other’s eyes. However, under life or death circumstances, technology can be used to satisfy people’s desire. In order to create a boundary preventing people from abusing technology at their benefit such as altering baby’s eye color, or hair color, federal agencies need to create laws that outline the limits of what technology can do. Regulations prevent technology from unethical actions, and also contain people’s desires. Because the rules are set, distinctions of ethical and unethical behaviors are also determined. In order to maintain social stability and more importantly, benefit people in the long run, is to create regulations and inform people to use professional subjectivities when encountering these issues. Technology is at large beneficial to our lives, but it can also undermine our personal lives. People should control their desire of technology usage, and keep it a smart part of personal
