My question to Ms. Jen Daulby was what ethical principles guide her in her career as Chief of Staff. Ashworth (2001: 162) argues that working inside organizations, one will feel pressures to carry out orders one feels uneasy about, and, to get ahead, there will be temptations to compromise oneself and one’s principles or instincts. Jen is a lawyer by profession even though she works as a Chief of Staff. I based my question on her dialogue about her political office where she interacts with voters, congressmen, and her staff. This is typified by the way they responded to the child who had cancer. Working with 8 people in office under such packed schedules requires commitment, visionary leadership style, collaborative skills, communication skills. This goes along with proper planning and organizing during campaigns. Ashworth (2001: 64) states that those above one’s positions of authority, power, and leadership have their own wants and desires that they want to have fulfilled. Again, those who are political figures are regularly searching for ways to look good with the voters and garner citizen support and approval (Ashworth, 2001: 64). Jen must attend to citizens’ needs, subordinates’ needs, and her boss’s needs. She must connect her boss with her voters.

In Administrative Ethics (POLS 535), Dr. Davis discussed some public service values which guide them when performing their duties daily. Ms. Jen emphasized the significance of being guided by ethics, conscience, and doing the right thing. This incorporates the ethical principles because she does not want to do unethical things when performing her duties daily. She even stated that it would be wonderful on her side if she gets fired for doing the right. At some point, she found herself as the only persons who says no as other people want their congressmen to be
