Situation
After all of the hard work and effort I have put forth to graduate with a criminal justice degree, I am placed in a compromising position by my best friend. If an act or intent is inherently good, it is considered a good act even if it results in a bad consequences (Pollock, 2014). My best friend’s action are solely based on his on fears and not my best interest. If I were to lie on the application and become employed by the same department, who is to say that my best friend would not ask me to lie or cover up something in the future?
The teleological ethical system judges the consequences of an act (Pollock, 2014). My best friend seems to be more concerned about the arrest becoming public information and having his name and reputation ruined. His actions also call into question his ability to be an honest and trustworthy police officer. The simple fact that he lied on his application tells me that. He is also placing a huge burden on my shoulders. I do not want to see my best friend get in trouble or fired for something we did many years ago, but I also am not willing to lie on my application and start my career in law enforcement off on a lie. It does not matter whether the lie may not ever surface, we both know it is
