Ethical Dilemma Situation Ethical dilemmas involving law enforcement officers happen every day. We can create a situation all on our own or we can be brought into a situation just because we are there. The facts remain the same, no matter how we ended up in an ethical dilemma situation, what are we going to do about it and is there a right way to handle the situation.
Situation
After all of the hard work and effort I have put forth to graduate with a criminal justice degree, I am placed in a compromising position by my best friend. As college freshman’s, we were caught with marijuana in our dorm room. We were both arrested for the possession of marijuana, but ultimately all of the charges were dismissed because it turned out the search was

If an act or intent is inherently good, it is considered a good act even if it results in a bad consequences (Pollock, 2014). My best friend’s action are solely based on his on fears and not my best interest. If I were to lie on the application and become employed by the same department, who is to say that my best friend would not ask me to lie or cover up something in the future?
The teleological ethical system judges the consequences of an act (Pollock, 2014). My best friend seems to be more concerned about the arrest becoming public information and having his name and reputation ruined. His actions also call into question his ability to be an honest and trustworthy police officer. The simple fact that he lied on his application tells me that. He is also placing a huge burden on my shoulders. I do not want to see my best friend get in trouble or fired for something we did many years ago, but I also am not willing to lie on my application and start my career in law enforcement off on a lie. It does not matter whether the lie may not ever surface, we both know it is

From interacting with the FTO, I have learned that Law Enforcement Officer's are allowed to work with a great deal of autonomy when confronting and individual whom has committed an infraction of the law. I have also learned that their are a great deal of variables at an Officer's disposal when dealing with aforementioned infraction and that no two incidents will be the same (Hendrix, 2013), therefore it is imperative that an Officer gathers all credible facts and assumptions and deliberates thoroughly before implementing a decision, and if applicable, should handle everything at the lowest level. We are all not without sin and sometimes we have a lapse of judgement and make mistakes. As stated in John 8:7 "Let he who has never sinned…

As Youtuber Richard Williams, also known as Prince Ea, once mentioned, “Planet Earth is 4.5 billion years old while humankind is about 140 thousand years old. In a different perspective, if the Earth’s life span is condensed into 24 hours, then we have been here for three seconds.” Now think about all the lying you have done throughout your whole life, which would be three seconds. As you recall all of these moments, don’t you think we have been doing far too much lying during our short lives? This belief has been incorporated in the articles, “Brad Blanton: Honestly Tell the Truth,” by Barbara Ballinger and “Teens Do their Share of Lying,” by Loretta Ragsdell, which introduce and analyze the idea of lying.…

Is it ok to lie in any situation, or is it just wrong to lie at all ? In four articles that I read, it states a couple of things, for example, they talk about lying and if it's bad, is lying sometimes good, and is lying good. I believe lying is only good sometimes and it should only be used in white lies. I think a good time to lie is when you protect someone. One scenario of this is the story of Ann Frank.this is a good example because they were protecting Ann and her family by saying that there was nothing upstairs.…

Most people will say that lying is never the answer, but they don’t always tell why. Lying often ends unethically, not only the can the lier be punished or feel guilty in the process, but it often goes further than anticipated. When looking back there seems to be more consequences on the result of the pretense than what the reward would have been if everything worked out and there was no lying. The Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy Trials, and the McMartin Trials all proved that it is important to always be honest, regardless of the sacrifice.…
