It involves loyalty and faithfulness of counsellors towards their clients. They have to be aware of their responsibility to community, being honest and reliability with them. Counsellor can only build and grow the relationship with clients when they uphold their word and promises, because trust is an essential component in the development of helping relationship. If clients find out any untruth information, they will feel like being betrayed, and started to hold back some personal information, which cause the counselling work could not be continuing well (Glosoff, 2002).
Case study
Vincent, a high school student visits counselling centre and share with the counsellor about his family issues. He mentioned about his father lost his job, and also how his parents fight at home everyday. This problem has affected him and bring him stress which actually caused him could not focus on his study and then fail his exams. He was seeking for a listener who will keep this secret, as he does not wish other people know about his current situation.
Few days later, his classmates came to the counsellor and ask whether Vincent shared about any of his problems as they concern about him.
