Throughout life people will face ethical dilemmas. How a person maneuvers their way through ethical dilemmas is determined by their worldview. I will discuss the ethical dilemma of using performance-enhancing drugs. The core beliefs that are relative to the ethical dilemma of performance enhancing drugs is that Christians should not be conformed to this world, cheating is wrong, and one’s body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Paul currently has earned a starting position on his team, however; his coach just told him that he might lose his starting position. Some of his fellow teammates have been using a new performance-enhancing drug and have gotten positive results. Not very many people know of this drug yet which is probably why it is not a banned substance. This case involves Paul’s response to his teammates who are offering him performance-enhancing drugs. Paul is concerned that if he does not take the drugs he will lose his place on the team. However, Paul has seen the repercussions of what happens when professional athletes consume performance-enhancing drugs. Paul believes that man was created in the image of God. This means that man has remnants of His character within him. This may include the ability to love, the capability to reason on a high level, and having a built in sense of right and wrong (“Lecture 2,” 2015). The Christian worldview perspective is that the human body is a gift from God to be utilized for His benefit and glory (Diffey, 2014).
How a person usess his or her body is very important. In the bible it is stated that a person’s body in not their own. Jesus paid for us by dying on the cross for our sins. Humankind’s sins were paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
Resolution
Paul should not take the performance enhancing drugs. Paul should continue to work out hard on and off the baseball field. Paul should put in extra hours in the gym lifting weights and doing cardio exercise. Paul should eat healthy foods such as vegetables, fruit, and lean protein. When Paul’s team mates offer him the drugs he should say no. When Paul’s has time he should ask to speak to his coach privately and see what he can do to secure a position on the
