Ethical Dilemmas In Social Work Essay

Social workers or therapists who worked/s with individuals, couples, groups and or families who are involved in sexual abuse allegation will sometimes face ethical dilemmas. Everyone has biases, when social workers get caught up in their biases towards the perpetrator or the victim they may be unable to help the perpetrator or the victim to the best of their ability. However, when a family is involved in sexual abuse allegation, it can be hard on all the members and hard on the social worker who is working with the family. As the social worker may hold different beliefs, values and morals then the family that he/she is working with and when both ideas clash it leads to ethical dilemma. Despite holding different values a social worker still needs to follow their professional code of conduct. It is like breaking Mark’ confidentiality even if it is out in that he is an offender, however that tiny information or remark should have been kept in. According to the NASW Code of ethic (1.07 privacy and confidentiality), social worker should disclose the less amount of confidential information. Mark and the family may have assumed that Mark is definitely going to be locked up. This will cause the family to panic and one make the victims feel like it was their entire fault that they ripped the family apart and put their own dad in jail. This will make the mother and the other siblings dislike and blame Sandra. This only saves the victim from the offender but this does not fix the family and the problem. The investigation worker should never disclose information that is likely false to the family without authorization and a proper investigation with a firm
