“When his aunt Clara died, Lennie just come along with me out workin’. Got kinda used to each other after a little while.” Quote from page 39. George has taken care of Lennie and has took on the responsibility of keeping him safe and to keep him out of trouble ever since his aunt Clara died. Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, forms into protecting people who cannot protect themselves. George feels obligated to protect Lennie and his actions which leads to a problematic dilemma; a problem that can be looked into, understood, and disapproved. First we will look into the problem and how it happened and could of been avoided. Next we will view how George's actions are acceptable in this situation. In the eyes of many, George shooting Lennie would of been disapproved. Lennie was George's family in a way and many think he should not of shot him. George could of brought him into town and turned him into the law enforcement and had him punished in other ways, or killed by being lynched. He also could of let Lennie just run away and leave. It would of been reasonable for George to let Lennie just run away and leave the town, however I do think the men would of found him and would of did much worse. George could of helped him escape by hiding him somewhere and leaving his job, but George must of been thinking of something when he made that decision and what option would of been best for him. Glaring at the disapproval side of his decision, George could of made another decision.
