In the healthcare field, ethical dilemmas occur very often. As technology progresses, and new treatments are developed, it is highly important to consider society’s reaction about innovative advances. For example, we have seen that the topic of abortion is a highly controversial one. There are pro-life and pro-choice supporters; But, what happens if a minor is victim of rape, and gets pregnant in consequence. Should she have the right of an abortion? What will the pro-life supporters claim in that case? In another scenario, if an adult woman wants to have an abortion because she does not have the financial support to have a baby. For example, currently, I work as an online tutor, and, several times, students want to take advantage of the service and offer me money if I do their quizzes. By accepting such propositions, I will be making an unfair decision for other students, the ones who do a hard work to get an acceptable grade and the ones who use the tutoring services just to get help. Probably, the service will be terminated, and students who need the online help would be affected as the service would not be there anymore. By thinking of all the students that can be affected, the right decision will be to say no to the student and report the problem to my supervisor. All the students may have different learning styles or personalities, but at the end, all they need is the help to understand their material to succeed in their classes. As tutors, we need to treat students equally, we need to treat them as we would like to be treated. In addition, confidentiality also applies to my work.
