Additionally, I would implement social worker home visits at least every 2 weeks for the first 3 months of a child's life for children who are considered at risk and/or who are born with a disability. This social worker's role would be to provide education, support, and social connection for the new parents. Resources such as support groups, therapies, pastoral support and counseling services would be provided. At the end of the three month period, the social worker would recommend whether or not the home visits would need to continue. Each child would be required to participate in programs such as Head Start until they began school in order to continue to monitor the child's development. While this may not completely eliminate cases of abuse and neglect, I believe the training, support and oversight would significantly reduce maltreatment
