Counselors in the community and in the school setting will face ethical dilemmas throughout their time as counselors. Some ethical dilemmas can be simple to figure our by looking at the code of ethics and talking to colleagues. However there will be some during a counselor’s career that are not so simple such as when and how to break confidentiality with a client and who all needs to know when a client is experiencing suicidal ideation. The case that will be discussed throughout this paper involves a seventh grade student named John. A teacher referred John to the school counselor.
