Though I’m sure cheating is an issue in every school system to some extent, it truly became an issue when teacher’s had to throw out finals and make their students retake them, which has just happened for my Calculus BC final. I do believe that school’s should run on an honor code because schools should install morals into its students, but if there are no punishments for students who don’t follow the rules there will be kids who have no incentive to do the right thing. Or worse, with a high school system so focused on ranks and numbers, though I don’t believe this is what matters to most colleges, including Duke, students find more incentive in cheating because they get higher grades and don’t have to worry about any punishments. It’s gotten to a point where some teachers turn a blind eye to it because its more paperwork for them to report these kids. So recently, I, along with some other friends who are getting red up, have started talking to teachers about the issue in an attempt to work side by side to find a solution. Though I’m sure there is no perfect cure all for this, I do believe that we will be able to find a way to improve the system. Though I suppose I haven’t solved this ethical dilemma yet, I’m glad that I was able to convince myself to take action without worrying what my peers would
