At the beginning of every priests career they take a vow of obedience, celibacy, and poverty. If you’re asked to describe a priest you would most likely say they put the church and God before themselves and that they don’t lie. At first glance, it could easily be said that Father Bobby is a Socratic man. For example, he was a father figure to a lot of boys in the community and he tried to keep them out of trouble. In a way, he was like a God. He had such a love for the people in the community and viewed all of the children as his own. There was one in particular, Lorenzo Carcaterra who completely adored Father Bobby. Lorenzo came from an abusive household with an abusive father. It was only natural that he would cling to a man who appeared to have a strong heart, not a cowardly one. There was one incident where Father Bobby came to the Juvenile Detention Center to see how Lorenzo was doing. Lorenzo tells Father Bobby everything that’s been going on, besides the fact that they’re getting raped by the guards. Because Father Bobby was a man of God, he would not be second guessed. But this didn’t keep Father Bobby from second guessing himself and where this would place him in the eyes of God. He trained himself to put no one above the laws of God, but his concern for the boys seemed to outweigh his morals. Father Bobby made a life-changing ethical decision when it came to testifying in court. He decided to lie to the courts so that his boys would get out of trouble. The decision was not the legal one but in his mind it was what he should do and it was what was ethical. In 2013 A 23 year old man in Texas killed another who had been caught molesting his 5 year old daughter. After weeks of trials and arguments the father was not charged with murder yet he admitted that he killed the man who molested the young girl. According to the law the father did the wrong thing and should be punished for his decision yet he made a ethical decision and did what he thought was right. These two circumstances have nothing to do with each other yet they are very similar.
