Ethical Cheating In Sports

In life, there is an old saying that ‘cheaters never win’, but is this really the case? There are lots of instances when people do or use something to get an edge in the daily competitions of life. Cheaters in sport are no different. But is it really cheating? Or is cheating really just playing the game. I believe that cheaters can win the game since some forms of cheating are conventions within each sport. I don’t believe that cheating causes the game to fall apart and end just because someone broke the rules. I think that cheating is apart of all sports and that it should be accepted as part of the game. Cheating can come in a lot of different forms and I believe there are some forms of ‘cheating’ that are permissible within the game and …show more content…
There are times that cheating adds interest to the game for the fans that invokes excitement or thrill. I think that one of the biggest examples of ethical cheating is in hockey when a fight breaks out. While this behavior is a convention in the NHL, is prohibited in International play by the IIHF. For both entities, there are regulative rules to handle those situations, but fights in hockey can not only motivate the teams on the ice but also the fans in the stands. It can also be considered a strategic foul, because it can create a 4-on-4 situation, which allows for more room out on the ice for skaters to make plays on both sides. I also agree that strategic fouls are a fair form of cheating because they can add an incentive for a player to help their team win. On 2/3/2016, I was working the Ball State Women’s basketball game against Akron. During the game, I saw women from both teams taking strategic fouls in an attempt to help their team achieve victory. While fouls are considered ‘cheating’ within the game and players who foul are often penalized for their actions. On the other side, there are players, who draw a foul from the other team on purpose. Doesn’t that make them cheaters as well because they gave their team an advantage? I think so, but that doesn’t mean that they are wrong for doing it. If in sports the prelusory goal is to win the game within the set lusory goals. The illusory means at which an athlete achieves those goals doesn’t disrupt the actual game being played then is it really

The Baseball Hall of Fame and PEDs Many people believe that baseball players who have been caught using performance enhancing drugs, or PEDs for short, should be forever banned from the baseball Hall of Fame. A Game is where two or more individuals compete to win determined by their set of skills or talents. On the other hand, gambling is where one favors a distinct result in order to gain more money. Therefore, if players continue to use actions similar to the Black Sox then the meaning of a baseball game would be irrelevant. The game should always be played with ones best effort in order to beat the opponent. Thus, purposely fixing games ruins the game and is rather seen as a standard performance or play.…

One of the most recent ethical dilemmas in American sport is the Title IX lawsuit of Hernandez vs. Baylor University. This is without a doubt one of the most prominent Title IX lawsuits to be filed in the 2000s. The lawsuit filed by Hernandez specifically states that she was raped by a player on the Bears’ football team, and that the university police refused to accommodate to her specific needs following the incident, simply because the rape occurred off-campus. Also, the lawsuit claims that the university failed to properly train their employees on the appropriate responses to sexual assault, and other Title IX policies. Perhaps the most outstanding piece of information in this case is that the university was aware that the player involved,…
