Imagine yourself not being able to achieve simple tasks let alone see, walk or speak. You’re in such excruciating pain you don’t want to live anymore. You think that your life isn't worth it because you aren't getting any enjoyment or pleasure living and you think Euthanasia is the answer to your problems. Euthanasia is the practice of assisted suicide, in order to relieve pain or suffering. Euthanasia has been a controversial topic due to its apparent infringement of a person’s fundamental right to live. As of 2016 euthanasia is legal in Belgium, Colombia, Netherlands, Luxembourg and some states in the United States. If a doctor in Australia participates in Euthanasia they can be charged with murder or manslaughter. Suicide itself is not a crime, but aiding or abetting suicide does remain a crime. It is believed that it is not fair that someone is allowed to take another's life, let alone their own even if consent is given. Euthanasia affects other people's rights, not just those of the patient. People believe that Euthanasia weakens society's respect for the sanctity of life as well as accepting that some lives, those of the disabled or sick, are worth less than others. Although, the main reason being that people may not have their best interest at heart when considering assisted suicide, as emotional and psychological pressures could become overpowering for depressed or dependent people, influencing their choice .
