Is the use of GMOs Ethical?
The application of recombinant technology to make transformations to plants as well as animals resulting in genetically modified foods is an important topic of discussion. GMOs play a significant role in reducing the costs of farm productions alongside other benefits to the farmers. On the other hand, they come with significant environmental as well as food safety risks that increase the nature and the occurrence of heath conditions such as cancer and obesity. Other concerns include the effect of the GMOs on animals and additionally their socioeconomic effects especially on the small-scale farmers (Qiu 12).

This concern is heightened by the fact that it is indeed possible to extract the genes from allergenic organisms and introduce it to another which unknowingly exposes the agent to the allergen leading to an allergic reaction. Scientists have also expressed the concern that the allergies could be caused by the combination of two gene organisms (Ardekani 11). Researchers postulate that some of the modification is done using the DNA of bacteria and viruses which raise the concern about the development of anew condition for the consumers (Carpenter 22). These are some examples of the health concerns that have resulted in the termination of GMO development by …show more content…
This is because since the products have not been shown to be harmful previously, it is not necessary for the governments to force their removal from the markets unless they are proven to be healthy through further research. Removing the products from the market would have detrimental economic consequences (Taylor 21). GMO products should also be labeled appropriately with the aim of informing the consumers about what they are about to purchase. Consumers have every right to be made aware of the nature and composition of the products they purchase and consume. The same strategy is recommended for the consumers that are allergic to certain foods. Labeling the stickers of the GMO products and making the information available on the internet, grocery stores and restaurants will increase consumer safety and
