Ethics entail systems that guide people to do what is morally right. In that sense, ethical communication is all about maintaining integrity and honesty, restraining on the confidentiality of the information. In addition, it calls for receptiveness and being sensitive of the personal differences that exist in an audience (Johnson, 2012, p88). Openness should be the first step towards ethical communication since it ensures the flow of inputs as well as ideas from the audience. A communication that locks out others from contributing as well as one that has a lot of assumptions creates many gaps in a speech leading to incoherence. In addition, it does not provide an environment where people can contribute freely. Johnson also asserts that openness can be achieved through psychological processes. The process should not only be based on age, race, gender, or role but new categories should be used too. Also, a fine difference within this classification is crucial (p.371). When communicating, a communicator must be aware of the unconscious biasness or preconceived perception about others. The biasness entails dogmatic attitudes about races, gender among others. An ethical communication must be in a position to have a positive appeal on other people’s differences such as the difference in opinions and perspectives in a conversation. It should enable the parties to freely share the information. An open communication should not be final, but it should create an environment where the communicator is willing to learn from another
