The topic I decided to choose is about ethic conduct and academic integrity . My work field is aviation, and to introduce the topic I would like to talk about fake pilots stories. These stories are incredible, let us think a lot about how a field like aviation, hard-regulated and that puts great attention to security can be easily cheated. Commercial aviation from the beginning of its story was controlled and regulated to prevent air crashes and any sort of inconvenience. However some cases of false licenses of fake identity put more attention on the fact that every fields include fragilities.
Thomas Salme was a Swedish maintenance engineer who became a Boeing 737 pilot by flying a few nights in a flight simulator and printing a fake airliner pilot license. Amazingly enough, he flew passengers for thirteen years without any incidents. He had accumulated 10,000 unlicensed hours in the air. He was arrested in 2010.
The most famous story is from Frank Abagnale. He forged a Federal Aviation Administration pilot's license, and flew more …show more content…
That academic process need to be preserved by a great organization and communication about risks. All the pilots but also all aviation workers must be aware of the circumstances of cheating. A personal attitude for integrity and work ethic is fundamental, but is a personal characteristics and depends from personality. That cannot be understood during pilot employee selections neither using personality test. Companies need to be aware of cases of unethical behavior, and if they not provide accurate security checks or methods of personal selection, they are sanctioned as happened for the Thomas Salme case, that was just fined £1,700 and was banned from flying for just a year for that reason. They also need to be aware of technologies improvement and modern techniques that could provide an easy way to fake on
