As we know, the war on drugs is never ending. With all the prohibition laws effecting our entire country, drugs like cocaine and heroin show a threat to our society because they’re dangerous. It has been proven that marijuana is less dangerous than legal drugs like tobacco and alcohol yet it is still prohibited. Slowly we are moving into Legalization, the question is how far?

The state and authorities favor their choices but will intimidate with arrest and prosecution. A lot of its history happens over decades at a time it almost feels like it has a different view on it every decade. In the 1700s it became more popular, it was grown by George Washington himself, it was also legal in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland. The 1800’s is when they started making cannabis medicines and extracts, it continued to be legal and they had 8327 hemp plantations. In the 1930’s Harry J. Anslinger enforced prohibition of cannabis, making up fearful rumors made it illegal. In 1942 cannabis was used for WW2 they made cordage parachutes and sails. In the 1950’s they make laws more strict and increasing jail time and fines. Marijuana is considered a sign of rebellion, especially by hippies in the 1960’s. The 1980’s and 90’s was very political and there was a war on drugs. In the early 2000’s anti-drug laws don’t interact with medical laws. .As years go by the Mexican Revolution sends mexican immigrants over here and recreational use is part of a culture and lifestyle. During the 1930s the use of opiates declined, in return people started focusing on Marijuana laws which had additional taxes, they then passed acts making it illegal. The Racketeer influenced and corrupt organization drug laws added profits from drug trafficking making it a schedule one drug. The terms “legalization , decriminalization, and medicalization” are used as a form of harm reduction. “Kleber, Califano”. In only a few states, possession of the drug in small amounts impose a civil violation by fine rather than a criminal offense. These articles provided in my research really helped me understand the views on the legalization of cannabis. I believe that in the future it will be decriminalized and may have certain laws behind it. Who knows what the future will bring
