“Do not get cornered. Do not let your guard down. Do not let them out of your sight if found. This will be easy if we are smart about it.” Jénte’s husky, authoritive voice rings out. “Ryder and I will take the North sector. Amena and Rahiel will take the South sector. Elmen and Norey will take the East sector. Will you be okay to take the West sector on your own, Aldy?”
Aldy grins, “You know I can.”
“Is this arrangement okay with everyone?” Jénte smiles to us.
I begin to protest, but stop myself when Jénte puts a hand on my shoulder.
Everyone but mumbles in agreement and then heads off in their own directions. Jénte turns to me, brushing the sides of my face with his soft, warm fingers. “I’m sorry, Ryder, but you can’t do this alone.”

Our country, Ethana, has been at war for as long as I can remember. Most of the war takes place in a country named Estria that’s about 150 miles northeast of Kolumbine. The chaotic scene of war often leaves psychological scars and post-traumatic stress on civilians and military personnel, thus yielding the question: while a country may have won its battle as a nation, have the people won their own, personal battles?…

A Long Way Gone (Memoirs of a Boy Soldier) by Ishmael Beah was not very appealing at first, but I eventually fell for it. I thought of choosing King Leopold’s Ghost by Adam Hochschild but I thought my fiction book was somewhat similar to it, thus, I wanted to opt for something different. Its critics seemed astonished and devastated at the same time because the book delivered such a horrendous, but definitely a very true reality that we are not very aware of.…
