Esther's Doubt: A Short Story

Great Essays
One night, I heard a furious roar from King Xerxes. Earlier, he asked his servants to call for Queen Vashti. His servants returned and told him she wouldn’t go to him. When I heard that, I was shocked. Why did she disobey the king? Did she not know she would be punished? That infuriated the king. He didn’t want Queen Vashti to be queen anymore. The king called his nobles and officials to make a royal decree. A few moments later, it got late and I was placed on a stand near the king’s bed.
The next day, King Xerxes told his servants to call all the young women in many regions to his palace and give them beauty treatments. The king wanted his noble to choose the best woman to be the queen. While the women were going to the king’s palace, I heard a conversation out of the window. I heard someone tell a woman that she shouldn’t tell anyone about her family background. What an odd conversation! I probably shouldn’t

Her name was Esther. When I heard her voice, I realized that I heard it before; outside the king’s window! I also heard that Esther might be the queen. She was given fancy food and treatments. I watched her and saw if she would be brought to the king right away, but she had to go through beauty treatment for a year! The first six months she was treated with myrrh. The last six months she was treated with perfumes.
When Esther was called to go to King Xerxes, he was pleased. He crowned her queen and gave her a banquet. She was even given gifts! I thought that was nice. I wonder if crowns get banquets and gifts. Anyway, Esther was treated like a queen, literally!
The next morning, I tried to stretch, then realized I couldn’t because I’m a crown. I looked around the king’s room to see where Esther is. I thought she would be in the same room with King Xerxes. I was wrong! She would only go to his palace in the night and go to another part of the palace in the morning. She could go back if the king called for

The Girl King tells the fascinating, bizarrely true story of Kristina, Queen of Sweden. Born to a doting father and mad mother in 1626, thought to be a boy, Christina was dropped down the stairs as a baby, declared queen at the age of six, forced to kiss goodnight the embalmed corpse of her father for two years, raised and educated as a boy, and formally crowned at 18. And that's just the first five minutes worth of backstory - some incredible exposition that is understandably too good to exclude, but sadly somewhat awkwardly rushed over. This is gorgeous historical film set in Sweden about the life of one of the country's most fascinating historical characters. The film follows Kristina’s life from her early years, and focuses mainly on the time following her coronation.…
