Estefania is 23-year-old Puerto Rican female that recently moved from Puerto Rico to Massachusetts with her mother and two siblings. She is very expressive verbally and physically when engaged in conversation and generally portrays friendliness. During the first session Estefania came in describing her feelings of sadness. She explained that she had many changes in her life from moving to the United States for school and even past relationship issues. Estefania mentioned her last relationship and how it had ended in bad terms. At this point in therapy I have seen Estefania three times. She seems comfortable and able to share issues that are causing distress in her live. Estefania is open to try new techniques in session and willing to work collaboratively with me. She is able to use her mother as support to cope with some of the issues she is dealing with. She also identified a friend in the college she attends as a natural support. While she has had a hard time with transitions in her life, Estefania manages to achieve academic excellence, and is proud of her educational accomplishments. While …show more content…
She feels at ease to talk about her issues with me as the therapist. This gave me room to collaborate with some of the issues Estefania presets. I was able to be present and be aware during the sessions with Estefania which helped me maintain good rapport and connection especially during the last to sessions. My ethnic background could have had an impact as to how comfortable Estefania felt during the session. Having a baseline of commonalities being both Latino also helped our therapeutic relationship. During the last session the Estefania asked what she should do with her pregnancy, and while it was hard, I redirected the question by stablishing my role as a support with any decision she decides to make.
