Establish A Supporters Program: A Case Study

Establish a Supporters Program
Communicating with all veterans organisations will trigger a lot of interest. People will want to become supporters. Whereas Volunteers are people who give their time to moderate or create content, “Supporters” can contribute in many smaller ways with active engagement. Examples include:
Encouraging a VWM facebook post on key days
Identifying potential memorial champions (or becoming one)
Printing a PDF poster and putting on local notice boards
Encouraging action and support at a local level
The potential of the supporter program needs to be workshopped before designing a system to administer it. It could be just name, contacts and location. However there may be merit in capturing specific interests of supporters.

While most people believe that non-profit are doing great public work, these organizations are often contributing to the increase of elitism and capitalist forms through corporate influence. Non-profit industrial complex (NPIC) is as a “set of symbolic relationships that link political and financial technologies of state and owning class control with surveillance over public political ideology, including and especially emergent progressive and leftist social movement” (Smith 8). This simply means that NPIC offers a space where corporations can control and authorize social justice movements through their financial support. It permits public monies to fall in the control of private corporation through foundations. The nonprofit industrial complex…

Veteran: a person who has served in the military. That’s the definition that Google gives you when you type it in, but to me a veteran is more than that. I come from a military family. Words like loyalty and respect are commonly used in my home especially when it comes to describing my father and my grandfather, both veterans who have given up their time to serve this nation. Due to my father serving overseas, I know how it feels to wake up in the morning, walk down the hall, and expect to see a warm smile welcoming you to the kitchen, but instead find that it is not there.…

As you drive to work, walk to class, or bustle through busy streets, do you ever take the time to stop and look what is around you? Do you notice the older man that stands on the corner of the street wearing a blue and red cap, wrapped in a blanket because he has no winter coat? Perhaps you give a pity induced smile and pass by without noticing that his cap reads “Proud to be a U.S. Veteran”. Each day most Americans, including myself, fail to realize that nearly a quarter of our homeless citizens are U.S. veterans. Unfortunately, homelessness in our veterans has become a calamity nationwide; with high homeless, depression, and suicide rates, our heroes are not living the “American Dream” they fought for during their years of service.…

THE VOICE OF…ME Have you ever stopped to think about how important our veterans are to our nation’s history? Well I need to tell you that without them we wouldn’t be the nation we are today. Senator John Hoeven tells us, "From the world wars of Europe to the jungles of the Far East, from the deserts of the Middle East to the African continent, and even here in our own hemisphere, our veterans have made the world a better place and America the great country we are today. " The Senator's words reveal two important reasons why veterans should be appreciated... those who serve in the Armed forces are always needed, and they truly do make a difference. We should appreciate our veterans because our military is always needed and has been from the time of our country's birth. Our veterans have braved combat and defended our freedom from the Revolutionary War through current international conflicts.…

The prevalent tradition at Ravenswood Middle School is to send all of the eighth graders on an outing to Washington, D.C. for celebratory reasons. Months in advance, they disclosed that there was going to be a writing contest on "Why are Veterans important?" Four recipients would be chosen to participate in the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery. Following this remarkable opportunity, I simultaneously felt inspired to prevail. The writing process was extremely easy due to the volume of passion I have for our Veterans...…
