The field agency I was assigned to is the Texas Department of State Health Services. It is a state agency in which the mission as stated on the Texas Department of State Health Services website is, “To improve health and well-being in Texas”. In order for DSHS to accomplish its mission it implements several strategies and goals which are as followed: to prevent and prepare for health threats, build capacity for improving community health, promote recovery for person with infectious disease and mental illness, to protect consumers, to develop and expand integrated services, to streamline administrative systems, to maintain and enhance DSHS assets, nurture a unified workplace culture, expand the effective use of health information, build and …show more content…
They work with families, providers and other professionals to develop a plan of service that will meet the client’s needs, they also work in building communities, network and partnerships by developing and coordinating resources. The Specialized Health and Social Service workers at this agency oversee the program that services Children with Specialized Health Care Needs (CSHCN), Case Management for Children and Pregnant Women (CPW), Assessment for Personal Care Services (PCS) and Texas Health Steps. These programs service individual in 16 counties and have different eligibility criteria’s to obtain services. . The CSHCN program services children with special healthcare needs and people of any age with cystic fibrosis. It helps clients with medical, dental and mental health care, medicine, special therapies, case management, family support services, and travel to health care visits and insurance premiums. The eligibility criteria are for those individuals who live in Texas and are under 21 years old, have a certain level of family income, have a medical problem that is expected to last at least 12 months that will limit one or more major life activities, need more …show more content…
The CSHCN program is a last resort of payment and individuals who apply for this program must apply for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Medicaid. The services provided benefits, family support services and related services that are not covered by Medicaid or chip, private insurance or other third party payers. It coverage is for a twelve month period and clients are required to renewal on a yearly basis. Case Management for Children and Pregnant Women known as CPW service children with health conditions or health risks and high risk pregnant women of all ages. It began back in September 2003 which assisted those with medical necessities. It is available to children birth to age 20 and who receive Medicaid. Under this program case
