Newborns should be breastfed for the first six months of their life, and until the age of two with the inclusion of foods. Breastfeeding has an abundance of benefits for newborns that with help the newborn develop and prevention of health issues later on in life. This fact is not often known by every mother or mothers may not know the true importance of breastfeeding. Often times, mothers are just offered formula rather than having the encouragement of breastfeeding. There should be more education and programs put in place for mothers to have the support to breastfeed. Due to the low breastfeeding rates in the state of Mississippi, Essential Infant Nutrition Initiative, goal is to increase these rates and provide sufficient education and support
