The Hardy-Weinberg equation is p² + 2pq + q² =1 (Daempfle, 2016). P in the equation equals the proportion of dominant alleles in a population and q equals the proportion of recessive alleles within a population. The homozygous dominant in the equation are given as p². Given this equation and the information from the questions p equal .01 so q would equal .99. The square root of .01 is 0.1. So 10 percent of individuals would have two copies of the normal CFTR gene.
