Essay Why College Athletes Should Not Get Paid

Improved Essays
College is a place for students to receive an education and obtain a degree. Some students choose to further their athletic career and play a sport in college. They can receive scholarships for putting their time into a sport. Some college athletes think that they should get paid. However, college athletes should not get paid because of the scholarships and payment. College athletes do not have to worry about student loans. They don’t have to pay for textbooks, dorm rooms, and meal plans. Everything is paid for. If college athletes think that they are good and should get paid for playing, then they can make it to the professionals. If they are not good enough for that, then they can go back to college and deal with receiving scholarships.

" What she fails to mention is that most of these things that the athletes receive only cover a small portion of the actual whole cost of living and learning, and being sheltered, and traveling; the list could go on.…

Due to NCAA rules, athletes have not been allowed compensation for their participation in college athletics. Opposing that view is the idea that college athletics offer exactly those benefits and more, which would be maximized with payment. As of right now, college athletes are being compensated through scholarships that average…
